X-in-a-Box project for the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB)

Project: X-in-a-Box for the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), based on mPOM (mobile Positioning of Maintenance Work)

Together with our Swiss partner company, the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group, we have successfully completed the CDR (Critical Design Review) as the first important milestone of the project. We are now looking forward to developing the mPOM system based on the jointly developed design proposal.

In the further course we are responsible for the development of the mPOM box (positioning unit), the positioning algorithm and the user interface.

Objective of the project:

  • The track-accurate recording of construction and maintenance work carried out is an important prerequisite for the introduction of predictive maintenance management at SBB CFF FFS.
  • As part of the „x-in-a-Box“ project, ANavS GmbH was commissioned together with the Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group to develop a mobile positioning system (mPOM) for track maintenance machines and to integrate it into the existing SBB IT system landscape.
  • With the introduction of this mobile positioning system, including the recognition of work assignments for track construction machines, their work performance is automatically recognized, located and made available for further processing.
  • Our multi-sensor RTK module, which already contains a fusion of GNSS, IMU and odometry data, is used as the starting point for the development and thus enables a position accuracy of 1 cm under favorable GNSS conditions and better than 1 m in certain sections without GNSS reception.
