High Accuracy User Terminal

Customer: EUSPA and Spaceopal GmbH

Project: The purpose of the project HAUT (High Accuracy User Terminal) was to develop a reference User Terminal and reference User Algorithm designed to receive, decode, and utilize Galileo HAS correction data (via E6B or IDD; service level 1 and 2) for Precise Point Positioning (PPP). It serves as:

  • A turnkey high-accuracy solution for positioning in the field
  • A demonstrator platform for the Galileo High Accuracy Service (HAS)
  • A testbed for developing and validating future HAS-based applications

Key Technologies integrated in HAUT

The HAUT device integrates high-performance components into a rugged, compact platform:

Company | ANavS | Munich | Made In Germany | Future of Positioning | PPP | Navigation | HAS Technology
Integrated Multi-frequency, Multi-GNSS receiver with E6B tracking for receiving HAS-corrections for PPP
Company | ANavS | Munich | Made In Germany | Future of Positioning | PPP | Navigation | RTK
Integrated industrial-grade MEMS-IMU
Company | ANavS | Munich | ICON
Integrated Quad-core processor (1.8 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 1 TByte memory) running ANavS GNSS/ INS/ odometry tightly coupled positioning engine
Company | ANavS | Munich | Made In Germany | ROS 2 | PPP | RTK | HAS
Various interfaces: PoE, Wi-Fi, USB Type-C, Bluetooth
Company | ANavS | Munich | Made In Germany | Minimal Warm Up Time
Equipped with LiPo batteries (29.2 Wh)
Company | ANavS | Munich | Made In Germany | Future of Positioning
Tested a.o. for following operating conditions: Vibration: 10–200 Hz log sweep, Corrosion: 5% salt spray

The terminal operates independently, supports logging, real-time output, and is fully self-contained, eliminating the need for external computing or power infrastructure.

Precise Point Positioning (PPP) with HAS Corrections

By directly decoding Galileo HAS messages from the E6B signal (or optionally via terrestrial link, called IDD), the terminal enables high-precision GNSS positioning with no dependency on paid RTK networks, ideal for remote or mobile deployments missing RTK infrastructure.

Use Cases:

  • Precision agriculture and surveying
  • Scientific field campaigns
  • Rail infrastructure positioning
  • Marine navigation
  • Research in Galileo High Accuracy Correction (HAS) performance
  • Reference terminal for HAS-based service development

HAUT 2 – Next Generation User Terminal

In HAUT‑2 (contracted by December 2024), ANavS continues its work with spaceopal and EUSPA in the development of a next-gen Galileo HAS2-compatible terminal.

Main Objectives of HAUT 2:

  • Design and implement an advanced user positioning algorithm tailored for the upcoming HAS service level 2
  • Build and validate a next-generation HAUT terminal, including interface enhancements and software improvements
  • Serve as a reference implementation for the HAS service level 2 ecosystem
